Jakarta – The government cooperates with former Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas in the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) project.
“The chairman of the steering committee, I am the Chair of the Formation Team Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas. This will be coordinated under the Coordinating Minister for the Economy,” said Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa when met at his office, Jalan Lapangan Banteng, Jakarta, Wednesday (01/26/2011).
Hatta explained that EITI is an independent institution consisting of government, NGOs, and parties related to extractive industries.
This institution is tasked with based on the Presidential Regulation to check the extractive industry transaction processes such as oil and gas and coal to increase transparency.
“So the pattern of work about a company asking for transparency, how much production, how much tax has been paid, wherever it is, then this will be checked to the receiving institution. For example, the coal company said it exports 100 tons at a price of x rupiah to a particular destination “The tax has been paid here-sono, this EITI will conduct a survey to these institutions,” he explained.
If later EITI finds a discrepancy, continued Hatta, the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) will audit the company’s transactions.
